Husband Finds His Wife After Returning From Work
Her husband came home from work and found her dead in the kitchen. Andria Hanafin, a 49-year-old Massachusetts mother of three, had been shot; her older son now faces a murder charge.
Police were called to the family’s Reading home shortly after midnight October 8. Authorities later announced a murder warrant for Ryan Hanafin, 22, in connection with his mother’s death.
Neighbors remembered Andria for rescuing and fostering cats. Friends told Boston 25 News that her willingness to help extended to people around her, too.
Search Reaches Vermont
Ryan Hanafin and his vehicle were missing when authorities began looking for him. Police issued a public warning before Vermont State Police stopped him in Warren that afternoon.
He was taken into custody on a fugitive-from-justice charge. The Massachusetts murder accusation is separate from that Vermont proceeding.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Reading police later confirmed the murder warrant. Their account identified Andria Hanafin as the victim and Ryan Hanafin as the defendant.
Family Remembers Her Animal Rescue Work
The murder charge remains an allegation. Investigators were working with Massachusetts State Police on the case, according to the district attorney’s announcement reported by Newport Dispatch.
Andria’s neighbors described a woman who regularly welcomed foster animals into her home. A family friend said she also helped many people in the community.
