Heather Michelle Pippen, 35, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to child-endangering, strangulation and obstruction charges. Her boyfriend, Stephanas Golden, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges that include child endangerment and strangulation.

The First Welfare Check Did Not End the Case

Dayton police first went to the Wroe Avenue home in April after the teenager’s father asked for a welfare check. Reporting from local station WHIO said the investigation intensified after video posted to social media showed alleged abuse inside the home.

Police returned and ultimately removed seven children. Prosecutors later said forensic interviews indicated the children described being abused or seeing siblings abused.

The Teen Had Documented What She Saw

The teenager had recorded video involving a younger sibling and sent it outside the home. That act gave adults beyond the household a direct look at what was allegedly happening and became a central piece of the case.
